8:1 et factum est deinceps et ipse 1. And it came to pass afterward, that
iter faciebat per civitatem et he went throughout every city and
castellum praedicans et evangelizans village, preaching and shewing the glad
regnum Dei et duodecim cum illo tidings of the kingdom of God: and the
                                             twelve were with him,

8:2 et mulieres aliquae quae erant 2. And certain women, which had been
curatae ab spiritibus malignis et healed of evil spirits and infirmities,
infirmitatibus Maria quae vocatur Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went
Magdalene de qua daemonia septem seven devils,

Herodis et Susanna et aliae multae quae Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many
ministrabant eis de facultatibus suis others, which ministered unto him of
                                             their substance.

8:4 cum autem turba plurima conveniret 4. And when much people were gathered
et de civitatibus properarent ad eum together, and were come to him out of
dixit per similitudinem every city, he spake by a parable:

8:5 exiit qui seminat seminare semen 5. A sower went out to sow his seed:
suum et dum seminat aliud cecidit secus and as he sowed, some fell by the way
viam et conculcatum est et volucres side; and it was trodden down, and the
caeli comederunt illud fowls of the air devoured it.

8:6 et aliud cecidit supra petram et 6. And some fell upon a rock; and as
natum aruit quia non habebat humorem soon as it was sprung up, it withered
                                             away, because it lacked moisture.

8:7 et aliud cecidit inter spinas et 7. And some fell among thorns; and the
simul exortae spinae suffocaverunt illud thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.

8:8 et aliud cecidit in terram bonam 8. And other fell on good ground, and
et ortum fecit fructum centuplum haec sprang up, and bare fruit an
dicens clamabat qui habet aures hundredfold. And when he had said these
audiendi audiat things, he cried, He that hath ears to
                                             hear, let him hear.

8:9 interrogabant autem eum discipuli 9. And his disciples asked him,
eius quae esset haec parabola saying, What might this parable be?

8:10 quibus ipse dixit vobis datum est 10. And he said, Unto you it is given
nosse mysterium regni Dei ceteris autem to know the mysteries of the kingdom of
in parabolis ut videntes non videant et God: but to others in parables; that
audientes non intellegant seeing they might not see, and hearing
                                             they might not understand.

8:11 est autem haec parabola semen est 11. Now the parable is this: The seed
verbum Dei is the word of God.

8:12 qui autem secus viam sunt qui 12. Those by the way side are they
audiunt deinde venit diabolus et tollit that hear; then cometh the devil, and
verbum de corde eorum ne credentes taketh away the word out of their

                                             saved.

8:13 nam qui supra petram qui cum 13. They on the rock are they, which,
audierint cum gaudio suscipiunt verbum when they hear, receive the word with
et hii radices non habent qui ad tempus joy; and these have no root, which for
credunt et in tempore temptationis a while believe, and in time of

8:14 quod autem in spinis cecidit hii 14. And that which fell among thorns
sunt qui audierunt et a are they, which, when they have heard,
sollicitudinibus et divitiis et go forth, and are choked with cares and
voluptatibus vitae euntes suffocantur riches and pleasures of this life, and
et non referunt fructum bring no fruit to perfection.

8:15 quod autem in bonam terram hii 15. But that on the good ground are
sunt qui in corde bono et optimo they, which in an honest and good
audientes verbum retinent et fructum heart, having heard the word, keep it,
adferunt in patientia and bring forth fruit with patience.

8:16 nemo autem lucernam accendens 16. No man, when he hath lighted a
operit eam vaso aut subtus lectum ponit candle, covereth it with a vessel, or
sed supra candelabrum ponit ut putteth it under a bed; but setteth it
intrantes videant lumen on a candlestick, that they which enter
                                             in may see the light.

8:17 non enim est occultum quod non 17. For nothing is secret, that shall
manifestetur nec absconditum quod non not be made manifest; neither any thing
cognoscatur et in palam veniat hid, that shall not be known and come
                                             abroad.

8:18 videte ergo quomodo auditis qui 18. Take heed therefore how ye hear:
enim habet dabitur illi et quicumque for whosoever hath, to him shall be
non habet etiam quod putat se habere given; and whosoever hath not, from him
auferetur ab illo shall be taken even that which he
                                             seemeth to have.

8:19 venerunt autem ad illum mater et 19. Then came to him his mother and
fratres eius et non poterant adire ad his brethren, and could not come at him
eum prae turba for the press.

8:20 et nuntiatum est illi mater tua 20. And it was told him by certain
et fratres tui stant foris volentes te which said, Thy mother and thy brethren
videre stand without, desiring to see thee.

8:21 qui respondens dixit ad eos mater 21. And he answered and said unto
mea et fratres mei hii sunt qui verbum them, My mother and my brethren are
Dei audiunt et faciunt these which hear the word of God, and
                                             do it.

8:22 factum est autem in una dierum et 22. Now it came to pass on a certain
ipse ascendit in naviculam et discipuli day, that he went into a ship with his
eius et ait ad illos transfretemus disciples: and he said unto them, Let
trans stagnum et ascenderunt us go over unto the other side of the
                                             lake. And they launched forth.

8:23 navigantibus autem illis 23. But as they sailed he fell asleep:
obdormiit et descendit procella venti and there came down a storm of wind on
in stagnum et conplebantur et the lake; and they were filled with
periclitabantur water, and were in jeopardy.

8:24 accedentes autem suscitaverunt 24. And they came to him, and awoke
eum dicentes praeceptor perimus at ille him, saying, Master, master, we perish.
surgens increpavit ventum et Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and
tempestatem aquae et cessavit et facta the raging of the water: and they
est tranquillitas ceased, and there was a calm.

8:25 dixit autem illis ubi est fides 25. And he said unto them, Where is
vestra qui timentes mirati sunt your faith? And they being afraid
dicentes ad invicem quis putas hic est wondered, saying one to another, What
quia et ventis imperat et mari et manner of man is this! for he
oboediunt ei commandeth even the winds and water,
                                             and they obey him.

8:26 enavigaverunt autem ad regionem 26. And they arrived at the country of
Gerasenorum quae est contra Galilaeam the Gadarenes, which is over against
                                             Galilee.

8:27 et cum egressus esset ad terram 27. And when he went forth to land,
occurrit illi vir quidam qui habebat there met him out of the city a certain
daemonium iam temporibus multis et man, which had devils long time, and
vestimento non induebatur neque in domo ware no clothes, neither abode in any
manebat sed in monumentis house, but in the tombs.

8:28 is ut vidit Iesum procidit ante 28. When he saw Jesus, he cried out,
illum et exclamans voce magna dixit and fell down before him, and with a
quid mihi et tibi est Iesu Fili Dei loud voice said, What have I to do with
altissimi obsecro te ne me torqueas thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high?
I beseech thee, torment me not.

8:29 praecipiebat enim spiritui 29. (For he had commanded the unclean
inmundo ut exiret ab homine multis enim spirit to come out of the man. For
temporibus arripiebat illum et oftentimes it had caught him: and he
vinciebatur catenis et conpedibus was kept bound with chains and in
custoditus et ruptis vinculis agebatur fetters; and he brake the bands, and
a daemonio in deserta was driven of the devil into the
                                             wilderness.)

8:30 interrogavit autem illum Iesus 30. And Jesus asked him, saying, What
dicens quod tibi nomen est at ille is thy name? And he said, Legion:
dixit Legio quia intraverunt daemonia because many devils were entered into
multa in eum him.

8:31 et rogabant illum ne imperaret 31. And they besought him that he
illis ut in abyssum irent would not command them to go out into
                                             the deep.

8:32 erat autem ibi grex porcorum 32. And there was there an herd of
multorum pascentium in monte et many swine feeding on the mountain: and
rogabant eum ut permitteret eos in they besought him that he would suffer
illos ingredi et permisit illos them to enter into them. And he
                                             suffered them.

8:33 exierunt ergo daemonia ab homine 33. Then went the devils out of the
et intraverunt in porcos et impetu man, and entered into the swine: and
abiit grex per praeceps in stagnum et the herd ran violently down a steep
suffocatus est place into the lake, and were choked.

8:34 quod ut viderunt factum qui 34. When they that fed them saw what
pascebant fugerunt et nuntiaverunt in was done, they fled, and went and told
civitatem et in villas it in the city and in the country.

8:35 exierunt autem videre quod factum 35. Then they went out to see what was
est et venerunt ad Iesum et invenerunt done; and came to Jesus, and found the
hominem sedentem a quo daemonia man, out of whom the devils were
exierant vestitum ac sana mente ad departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus,
pedes eius et timuerunt clothed, and in his right mind: and
                                             they were afraid.

8:36 nuntiaverunt autem illis et qui 36. They also which saw it told them
viderant quomodo sanus factus esset a by what means he that was possessed of
Legione the devils was healed.

8:37 et rogaverunt illum omnis 37. Then the whole multitude of the
multitudo regionis Gerasenorum ut country of the Gadarenes round about
discederet ab ipsis quia timore magno besought him to depart from them; for
tenebantur ipse autem ascendens navem they were taken with great fear: and he
reversus est went up into the ship, and returned
                                             back again.

8:38 et rogabat illum vir a quo 38. Now the man out of whom the devils
daemonia exierant ut cum eo esset were departed besought him that he
dimisit autem eum Iesus dicens might be with him: but Jesus sent him
                                             away, saying,

8:39 redi domum tuam et narra quanta 39. Return to thine own house, and
tibi fecit Deus et abiit per universam shew how great things God hath done
civitatem praedicans quanta illi unto thee. And he went his way, and
fecisset Iesus published throughout the whole city how
great things Jesus had done unto him.

8:40 factum est autem cum redisset 40. And it came to pass, that, when
Iesus excepit illum turba erant enim Jesus was returned, the people gladly
omnes expectantes eum received him: for they were all waiting
                                             for him.

8:41 et ecce venit vir cui nomen 41. And, behold, there came a man
Iairus et ipse princeps synagogae erat named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the
et cecidit ad pedes Iesu rogans eum ut synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus'
intraret in domum eius feet, and besought him that he would
                                             come into his house:

8:42 quia filia unica erat illi fere 42. For he had one only daughter,
annorum duodecim et haec moriebatur et about twelve years of age, and she lay
contigit dum iret a turbis conprimebatur a dying. But as he went the people
                                             thronged him.

8:43 et mulier quaedam erat in fluxu 43. And a woman having an issue of
sanguinis ab annis duodecim quae in blood twelve years, which had spent all
medicos erogaverat omnem substantiam her living upon physicians, neither
suam nec ab ullo potuit curari could be healed of any,

8:44 accessit retro et tetigit 44. Came behind him, and touched the
fimbriam vestimenti eius et confestim border of his garment: and immediately
stetit fluxus sanguinis eius her issue of blood stanched.

8:45 et ait Iesus quis est qui me 45. And Jesus said, Who touched me?
tetigit negantibus autem omnibus dixit When all denied, Peter and they that
Petrus et qui cum illo erant praeceptor were with him said, Master, the
turbae te conprimunt et adfligunt et multitude throng thee and press thee,
dicis quis me tetigit and sayest thou, Who touched me?

8:46 et dixit Iesus tetigit me aliquis 46. And Jesus said, Somebody hath
nam ego novi virtutem de me exisse touched me: for I perceive that virtue
                                             is gone out of me.

8:47 videns autem mulier quia non 47. And when the woman saw that she
latuit tremens venit et procidit ante was not hid, she came trembling, and
pedes illius et ob quam causam falling down before him, she declared
tetigerit eum indicavit coram omni unto him before all the people for what
populo et quemadmodum confestim sanata cause she had touched him, and how she
sit was healed immediately.

8:48 at ipse dixit illi filia fides 48. And he said unto her, Daughter, be
tua te salvam fecit vade in pace of good comfort: thy faith hath made
                                             thee whole; go in peace.

8:49 adhuc illo loquente venit a 49. While he yet spake, there cometh
principe synagogae dicens ei quia one from the ruler of the synagogue's
mortua est filia tua noli vexare illum house, saying to him, Thy daughter is
                                             dead; trouble not the Master.

8:50 Iesus autem audito hoc verbo 50. But when Jesus heard it, he
respondit patri puellae noli timere answered him, saying, Fear not: believe
crede tantum et salva erit only, and she shall be made whole.

8:51 et cum venisset domum non 51. And when he came into the house,
permisit intrare secum quemquam nisi he suffered no man to go in, save
Petrum et Iohannem et Iacobum et patrem Peter, and James, and John, and the
et matrem puellae father and the mother of the maiden.

8:52 flebant autem omnes et plangebant 52. And all wept, and bewailed her:
illam at ille dixit nolite flere non but he said, Weep not; she is not dead,
est mortua sed dormit but sleepeth.

8:53 et deridebant eum scientes quia 53. And they laughed him to scorn,
mortua esset knowing that she was dead.

8:54 ipse autem tenens manum eius 54. And he put them all out, and took
clamavit dicens puella surge her by the hand, and called, saying,
                                             Maid, arise.

8:55 et reversus est spiritus eius et 55. And her spirit came again, and she
surrexit continuo et iussit illi dari arose straightway: and he commanded to
manducare give her meat.
