generationes quattuordecim generations.
1:18 Christi autem generatio sic erat 18. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was
cum esset desponsata mater eius Maria on this wise: When as his mother Mary
Ioseph antequam convenirent inventa est was espoused to Joseph, before they
in utero habens de Spiritu Sancto came together, she was found with child
                                             of the Holy Ghost.
1:19 Ioseph autem vir eius cum esset 19. Then Joseph her husband, being a

1:20 haec autem eo cogitante ecce 20. But while he thought on these
angelus Domini in somnis apparuit ei things, behold, the angel of the LORD
dicens Ioseph fili David noli timere appeared unto him in a dream, saying,
accipere Mariam coniugem tuam quod enim Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to
in ea natum est de Spiritu Sancto est take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that
which is conceived in her is of the

1:21 pariet autem filium et vocabis 21. And she shall bring forth a son,
nomen eius Iesum ipse enim salvum and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for
faciet populum suum a peccatis eorum he shall save his people from their

1:22 hoc autem totum factum est ut 22. Now all this was done, that it
adimpleretur id quod dictum est a might be fulfilled which was spoken of
Domino per prophetam dicentem the Lord by the prophet, saying,
1:23 ecce virgo in utero habebit et 23. Behold, a virgin shall be with
pariet filium et vocabunt nomen eius child, and shall bring forth a son, and
Emmanuhel quod est interpretatum they shall call his name Emmanuel,
Nobiscum Deus which being interpreted is, God with us.
1:24 exsurgens autem Ioseph a somno 24. Then Joseph being raised from
fecit sicut praecepit ei angelus Domini sleep did as the angel of the Lord had
et accepit coniugem suam bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
1:25 et non cognoscebat eam donec 25. And knew her not till she had
peperit filium suum primogenitum et brought forth her firstborn son: and he
vocavit nomen eius Iesum called his name JESUS.
