4:1 tunc Iesus ductus est in desertum 1. Then was Jesus led up of the spirit
ab Spiritu ut temptaretur a diabolo into the wilderness to be tempted of
                                             the devil.

4:2 et cum ieiunasset quadraginta 2. And when he had fasted forty days
diebus et quadraginta noctibus postea and forty nights, he was afterward an
esuriit hungred.

4:3 et accedens temptator dixit ei si 3. And when the tempter came to him,
Filius Dei es dic ut lapides isti panes he said, If thou be the Son of God,
fiant command that these stones be made bread.

4:4 qui respondens dixit scriptum est 4. But he answered and said, It is
non in pane solo vivet homo sed in omni written, Man shall not live by bread
verbo quod procedit de ore Dei alone, but by every word that
proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

4:5 tunc adsumit eum diabolus in 5. Then the devil taketh him up into
sanctam civitatem et statuit eum supra the holy city, and setteth him on a
pinnaculum templi pinnacle of the temple,

4:6 et dixit ei si Filius Dei es mitte 6. And saith unto him, If thou be the
te deorsum scriptum est enim quia Son of God, cast thyself down: for it
angelis suis mandabit de te et in is written, He shall give his angels
manibus tollent te ne forte offendas ad charge concerning thee: and in their
lapidem pedem tuum hands they shall bear thee up, lest at
any time thou dash thy foot against a
                                             stone.

4:7 ait illi Iesus rursum scriptum est 7. Jesus said unto him, It is written
non temptabis Dominum Deum tuum again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord
                                             thy God.

4:8 iterum adsumit eum diabolus in 8. Again, the devil taketh him up into
montem excelsum valde et ostendit ei an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth
omnia regna mundi et gloriam eorum him all the kingdoms of the world, and
                                             the glory of them;

4:9 et dixit illi haec tibi omnia dabo 9. And saith unto him, All these
si cadens adoraveris me things will I give thee, if thou wilt
                                             fall down and worship me.

4:10 tunc dicit ei Iesus vade Satanas 10. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get
scriptum est Dominum Deum tuum adorabis thee hence, Satan: for it is written,
et illi soli servies Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,
and him only shalt thou serve.

4:11 tunc reliquit eum diabolus et ecce 11. Then the devil leaveth him, and,
angeli accesserunt et ministrabant ei behold, angels came and ministered unto
                                             him.

4:12 cum autem audisset quod Iohannes 12. Now when Jesus had heard that John
traditus esset secessit in Galilaeam was cast into prison, he departed into

4:13 et relicta civitate Nazareth venit 13. And leaving Nazareth, he came and

                                             saying,

lucem vidit magnam et sedentibus in saw great light; and to them which sat

4:17 exinde coepit Iesus praedicare et 17. From that time Jesus began to
dicere paenitentiam agite preach, and to say, Repent: for the

4:19 et ait illis venite post me et 19. And he saith unto them, Follow me,
faciam vos fieri piscatores hominum and I will make you fishers of men.

4:23 et circumibat Iesus totam 23. And Jesus went about all Galilee,
