2:1 cum ergo natus esset Iesus in            1.  Now when Jesus was born in
Bethleem Iudaeae in diebus Herodis           Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of
regis ecce magi ab oriente venerunt          Herod the king, behold, there came wise
Hierosolymam                                 men from the east to Jerusalem,
                                             
2:2 dicentes ubi est qui natus est rex       2.  Saying, Where is he that is born
Iudaeorum vidimus enim stellam eius in       King of the Jews? for we have seen his
oriente et venimus adorare eum               star in the east, and are come to
                                             worship him.
                                             
2:3 audiens autem Herodes rex turbatus       3.  When Herod the king had heard these

2:7 tunc Herodes clam vocatis magis          7.  Then Herod, when he had privily
diligenter didicit ab eis tempus             called the wise men, enquired of them
stellae quae apparuit eis                    diligently what time the star appeared.
                                             
2:8 et mittens illos in Bethleem dixit       8.  And he sent them to Bethlehem, and
ite et interrogate diligenter de puero       said, Go and search diligently for the
et cum inveneritis renuntiate mihi ut        young child; and when ye have found
et ego veniens adorem eum                    him, bring me word again, that I may
                                             come and worship him also.
                                             
2:9 qui cum audissent regem abierunt et      9.  When they had heard the king, they

2:10 videntes autem stellam gavisi sunt      10.  When they saw the star, they
gaudio magno valde                           rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
                                             
2:11 et intrantes domum invenerunt           11.  And when they were come into the
puerum cum Maria matre eius et               house, they saw the young child with
procidentes adoraverunt eum et apertis       Mary his mother, and fell down, and
thesauris suis obtulerunt ei munera          worshipped him: and when they had
aurum tus et murram                          opened their treasures, they presented
                                             unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense
                                             and myrrh.
                                             
2:12 et responso accepto in somnis ne        12.  And being warned of God in a dream
redirent ad Herodem per aliam viam           that they should not return to Herod,
reversi sunt in regionem suam                they departed into their own country

2:13 qui cum recessissent ecce angelus       13.  And when they were departed,
Domini apparuit in somnis Ioseph dicens      behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth

et fuge in Aegyptum et esto ibi usque        and take the young child and his

2:14 qui consurgens accepit puerum et        14.  When he arose, he took the young

2:20 dicens surge et accipe puerum et        20.  Saying, Arise, and take the young
matrem eius et vade in terram Israhel        child and his mother, and go into the
defuncti sunt enim qui quaerebant            land of Israel: for they are dead which
animam pueri                                 sought the young child's life.
                                             
2:21 qui surgens accepit puerum et           21.  And he arose, and took the young
matrem eius et venit in terram Israhel       child and his mother, and came into the

2:22 audiens autem quod Archelaus            22.  But when he heard that Archelaus
regnaret in Iudaea pro Herode patre suo      did reign in Judaea in the room of his

secessit in partes Galilaeae                 thither: notwithstanding, being warned
                                             of God in a dream, he turned aside into

2:23 et veniens habitavit in civitate        23.  And he came and dwelt in a city
quae vocatur Nazareth ut adimpleretur        called Nazareth: that it might be
quod dictum est per prophetas quoniam        fulfilled which was spoken by the
