13:1 erant autem in ecclesia quae erat 1. Now there were in the church that
Antiochiae prophetae et doctores in was at Antioch certain prophets and
quibus Barnabas et Symeon qui vocabatur teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that
Niger et Lucius Cyrenensis et Manaen was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene,
qui erat Herodis tetrarchae and Manaen, which had been brought up
conlactaneus et Saulus with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

13:2 ministrantibus autem illis Domino 2. As they ministered to the Lord, and
et ieiunantibus dixit Spiritus Sanctus fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate
separate mihi Barnaban et Saulum in me Barnabas and Saul for the work
opus quod adsumpsi eos whereunto I have called them.

13:3 tunc ieiunantes et orantes 3. And when they had fasted and
inponentesque eis manus dimiserunt illos prayed, and laid their hands on them,
                                             they sent them away.

13:4 et ipsi quidem missi ab Spiritu 4. So they, being sent forth by the
Sancto abierunt Seleuciam et inde Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and
navigaverunt Cyprum from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

13:5 et cum venissent Salamina 5. And when they were at Salamis, they
praedicabant verbum Dei in synagogis preached the word of God in the

13:6 et cum perambulassent universam 6. And when they had gone through the
insulam usque Paphum invenerunt quendam isle unto Paphos, they found a certain
virum magum pseudoprophetam Iudaeum cui sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose
nomen erat Bariesu name was Barjesus:

13:7 qui erat cum proconsule Sergio 7. Which was with the deputy of the
Paulo viro prudente hic accitis Barnaba      country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man;
et Saulo desiderabat audire verbum Dei who called for Barnabas and Saul, and
desired to hear the word of God.

13:8 resistebat autem illis Elymas 8. But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is
magus sic enim interpretatur nomen eius his name by interpretation) withstood
quaerens avertere proconsulem a fide them, seeking to turn away the deputy
                                             from the faith.

13:9 Saulus autem qui et Paulus 9. Then Saul, (who also is called
repletus Spiritu Sancto intuens in eum Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set
                                             his eyes on him.

13:10 dixit o plene omni dolo et omni 10. And said, O full of all subtilty
fallacia fili diaboli inimice omnis and all mischief, thou child of the
iustitiae non desinis subvertere vias devil, thou enemy of all righteousness,
Domini rectas wilt thou not cease to pervert the
                                             right ways of the Lord?

13:11 et nunc ecce manus Domini super 11. And now, behold, the hand of the

seeking some to lead him by the hand.

13:12 tunc proconsul cum vidisset 12. Then the deputy, when he saw what
factum credidit admirans super was done, believed, being astonished at
doctrinam Domini the doctrine of the Lord.

13:13 et cum a Papho navigassent 13. Now when Paul and his company
Paulus et qui cum eo venerunt Pergen loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga
Pamphiliae Iohannes autem discedens ab in Pamphylia: and John departing from
eis reversus est Hierosolymam them returned to Jerusalem.

13:14 illi vero pertranseuntes Pergen 14. But when they departed from Perga,
venerunt Antiochiam Pisidiae et they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and
ingressi synagogam die sabbatorum went into the synagogue on the sabbath
sederunt day, and sat down.

13:15 post lectionem autem legis et 15. And after the reading of the law
prophetarum miserunt principes and the prophets the rulers of the
synagogae ad eos dicentes viri fratres synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye
si quis est in vobis sermo men and brethren, if ye have any word
exhortationis ad plebem dicite of exhortation for the people, say on.

13:16 surgens autem Paulus et manu 16. Then Paul stood up, and beckoning
silentium indicens ait viri israhelitae with his hand said, Men of Israel, and
et qui timetis Deum audite ye that fear God, give audience.

13:17 Deus plebis Israhel elegit 17. The God of this people of Israel
patres nostros et plebem exaltavit cum chose our fathers, and exalted the

brought he them out of it.

13:18 et per quadraginta annorum 18. And about the time of forty years
tempus mores eorum sustinuit in deserto suffered he their manners in the
                                             wilderness.

13:19 et destruens gentes septem in 19. And when he had destroyed seven

terram eorum divided their land to them by lot.

13:20 quasi post quadringentos et 20. And after that he gave unto them
quinquaginta annos et post haec dedit judges about the space of four hundred
iudices usque ad Samuhel prophetam and fifty years, until Samuel the

13:21 et exinde postulaverunt regem et 21. And afterward they desired a king:
dedit illis Deus Saul filium Cis virum and God gave unto them Saul the son of

13:22 et amoto illo suscitavit illis 22. And when he had removed him, he

heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

13:23 huius Deus ex semine secundum 23. Of this man's seed hath God
promissionem eduxit Israhel salvatorem according to his promise raised unto
Iesum Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

13:24 praedicante Iohanne ante faciem 24. When John had first preached
adventus eius baptismum paenitentiae before his coming the baptism of
omni populo Israhel repentance to all the people of Israel.

13:25 cum impleret autem Iohannes 25. And as John fulfilled his course,
cursum suum dicebat quem me arbitramini he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am
esse non sum ego sed ecce venit post me not he. But, behold, there cometh one
cuius non sum dignus calciamenta pedum after me, whose shoes of his feet I am
solvere not worthy to loose.

13:26 viri fratres filii generis 26. Men and brethren, children of the
Abraham et qui in vobis timent Deum stock of Abraham, and whosoever among
vobis verbum salutis huius missum est you feareth God, to you is the word of
                                             this salvation sent.

13:27 qui enim habitabant Hierusalem 27. For they that dwell at Jerusalem,
et principes eius hunc ignorantes et and their rulers, because they knew him

have fulfilled them in condemning him.

13:28 et nullam causam mortis 28. And though they found no cause of

ut interficerent eum that he should be slain.

13:29 cumque consummassent omnia quae 29. And when they had fulfilled all
de eo scripta erant deponentes eum de that was written of him, they took him
ligno posuerunt in monumento down from the tree, and laid him in a
                                             sepulchre.

13:30 Deus vero suscitavit eum a 30. But God raised him from the dead:
mortuis qui visus est per dies multos

13:32 et nos vobis adnuntiamus ea quae 32. And we declare unto you glad
ad patres nostros repromissio facta est tidings, how that the promise which was
                                             made unto the fathers,

13:33 quoniam hanc Deus adimplevit 33. God hath fulfilled the same unto
filiis nostris resuscitans Iesum sicut us their children, in that he hath
et in psalmo secundo scriptum est raised up Jesus again; as it is also
Filius meus es tu ego hodie genui te written in the second psalm, Thou art
my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

13:34 quod autem suscitaverit eum a 34. And as concerning that he raised
mortuis amplius iam non reversurum in him up from the dead, now no more to
corruptionem ita dixit quia dabo vobis return to corruption, he said on this
sancta David fidelia wise, I will give you the sure mercies
                                             of David.

13:35 ideoque et alias dicit non dabis 35. Wherefore he saith also in another

13:36 David enim sua generatione cum 36. For David, after he had served his
administrasset voluntati Dei dormivit own generation by the will of God, fell
et adpositus est ad patres suos et on sleep, and was laid unto his

vidit corruptionem no corruption.

13:38 notum igitur sit vobis viri 38. Be it known unto you therefore,
fratres quia per hunc vobis remissio men and brethren, that through this man
peccatorum adnuntiatur ab omnibus is preached unto you the forgiveness of
quibus non potuistis in lege Mosi sins:
iustificari

13:39 in hoc omnis qui credit 39. And by him all that believe are
iustificatur justified from all things, from which
ye could not be justified by the law of
                                             Moses.

13:40 videte ergo ne superveniat quod 40. Beware therefore, lest that come
dictum est in prophetis upon you, which is spoken of in the
                                             prophets;

13:41 videte contemptores et 41. Behold, ye despisers, and wonder,
admiramini et disperdimini quia opus and perish: for I work a work in your
operor ego in diebus vestris opus quod days, a work which ye shall in no wise
non credetis si quis enarraverit vobis believe, though a man declare it unto
                                             you.

13:42 exeuntibus autem illis rogabant 42. And when the Jews were gone out of
ut sequenti sabbato loquerentur sibi the synagogue, the Gentiles besought
verba haec that these words might be preached to
                                             them the next sabbath.

13:43 cumque dimissa esset synagoga 43. Now when the congregation was
secuti sunt multi Iudaeorum et broken up, many of the Jews and
colentium advenarum Paulum et Barnaban religious proselytes followed Paul and
qui loquentes suadebant eis ut Barnabas: who, speaking to them,
permanerent in gratia Dei persuaded them to continue in the grace
                                             of God.

13:44 sequenti vero sabbato paene 44. And the next sabbath day came
universa civitas convenit audire verbum almost the whole city together to hear
Domini the word of God.

13:45 videntes autem turbas Iudaei 45. But when the Jews saw the
repleti sunt zelo et contradicebant his multitudes, they were filled with envy,
quae a Paulo dicebantur blasphemantes and spake against those things which
were spoken by Paul, contradicting and
                                             blaspheming.

13:46 tunc constanter Paulus et 46. Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold,
Barnabas dixerunt vobis oportebat and said, It was necessary that the
primum loqui verbum Dei sed quoniam word of God should first have been
repellitis illud et indignos vos spoken to you: but seeing ye put it

                                             Gentiles.

13:47 sic enim praecepit nobis Dominus 47. For so hath the Lord commanded us,
posui te in lumen gentibus ut sis in saying, I have set thee to be a light
salutem usque ad extremum terrae of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be
for salvation unto the ends of the
                                             earth.

13:48 audientes autem gentes gavisae 48. And when the Gentiles heard this,
sunt et glorificabant verbum Domini et they were glad, and glorified the word
crediderunt quotquot erant praeordinati of the Lord: and as many as were
ad vitam aeternam ordained to eternal life believed.

13:49 disseminabatur autem verbum 49. And the word of the Lord was
Domini per universam regionem published throughout all the region.

13:50 Iudaei autem concitaverunt 50. But the Jews stirred up the devout
religiosas mulieres et honestas et and honourable women, and the chief men
primos civitatis et excitaverunt of the city, and raised persecution

13:52 discipuli quoque replebantur 52. And the disciples were filled with
gaudio et Spiritu Sancto joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
