14:1  factum est autem Iconii ut simul       1.  And it came to pass in Iconium,
introirent synagogam Iudaeorum et            that they went both together into the
loquerentur ita ut crederet Iudaeorum        synagogue of the Jews, and so spake,
et Graecorum copiosa multitudo               that a great multitude both of the Jews
                                             and also of the Greeks believed.

14:2  qui vero increduli fuerunt Iudaei      2.  But the unbelieving Jews stirred up
suscitaverunt et ad iracundiam               the Gentiles, and made their minds evil
concitaverunt animas gentium adversus        affected against the brethren.

14:3  multo igitur tempore demorati          3.  Long time therefore abode they
sunt fiducialiter agentes in Domino          speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave
testimonium perhibente verbo gratiae         testimony unto the word of his grace,
suae dante signa et prodigia fieri per       and granted signs and wonders to be
manus eorum                                  done by their hands.

14:4  divisa est autem multitudo             4.  But the multitude of the city was
civitatis et quidam quidem erant cum         divided: and part held with the Jews,
Iudaeis quidam vero cum apostolis            and part with the apostles.

14:5  cum autem factus esset impetus         5.  And when there was an assault made
gentilium et Iudaeorum cum principibus       both of the Gentiles, and also of the
suis ut contumeliis adficerent et            Jews with their rulers, to use them
lapidarent eos                               despitefully, and to stone them,

14:6  intellegentes confugerunt ad           6.  They were ware of it, and fled unto
civitates Lycaoniae Lystram et Derben        Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia,
et universam in circuitu regionem            and unto the region that lieth round
                                             about:

14:6  (continues) et ibi                     7.  And there they preached the gospel.
evangelizantes erant

14:7  et quidam vir in Lystris infirmus      8.  And there sat a certain man at
pedibus sedebat claudus ex utero matris      Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a
suae qui numquam ambulaverat                 cripple from his mother's womb, who
                                             never had walked:

14:8  hic audivit Paulum loquentem qui       9.  The same heard Paul speak: who
intuitus eum et videns quia haberet          stedfastly beholding him, and
fidem ut salvus fieret                       perceiving that he had faith to be
                                             healed,

14:9  dixit magna voce surge super           10.  Said with a loud voice, Stand
pedes tuos rectus et exilivit et             upright on thy feet. And he leaped and
ambulabat                                    walked.

14:10  turbae autem cum vidissent quod       11.  And when the people saw what Paul
fecerat Paulus levaverunt vocem suam         had done, they lifted up their voices,
lycaonice dicentes dii similes facti         saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The
hominibus descenderunt ad nos                gods are come down to us in the
                                             likeness of men.

14:11  et vocabant Barnaban Iovem            12.  And they called Barnabas, Jupiter;
Paulum vero Mercurium quoniam ipse erat      and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the
dux verbi                                    chief speaker.

14:12  sacerdos quoque Iovis qui erat        13.  Then the priest of Jupiter, which
ante civitatem tauros et coronas ante        was before their city, brought oxen and
ianuas adferens cum populis volebat          garlands unto the gates, and would have
sacrificare                                  done sacrifice with the people.

14:13  quod ubi audierunt apostoli           14.  Which when the apostles, Barnabas
Barnabas et Paulus conscissis tunicis        and Paul, heard of, they rent their
suis exilierunt in turbas clamantes          clothes, and ran in among the people,
                                             crying out,

14:14  et dicentes viri quid haec            15.  And saying, Sirs, why do ye these
facitis et nos mortales sumus similes        things? We also are men of like
vobis homines adnuntiantes vobis ab his      passions with you, and preach unto you
vanis converti ad Deum vivum qui fecit       that ye should turn from these vanities
caelum et terram et mare et omnia quae       unto the living God, which made heaven,
in eis sunt                                  and earth, and the sea, and all things
                                             that are therein:

14:15  qui in praeteritis                    16.  Who in times past suffered all
generationibus dimisit omnes gentes          nations to walk in their own ways.

14:16  et quidem non sine testimonio         17.  Nevertheless he left not himself
semet ipsum reliquit benefaciens de          without witness, in that he did good,
caelo dans pluvias et tempora                and gave us rain from heaven, and
fructifera implens cibo et laetitia          fruitful seasons, filling our hearts
corda vestra                                 with food and gladness.

14:17  et haec dicentes vix sedaverunt       18.  And with these sayings scarce
turbas ne sibi immolarent                    restrained they the people, that they
                                             had not done sacrifice unto them.

14:18  supervenerunt autem quidam ab         19.  And there came thither certain
Antiochia et Iconio Iudaei et persuasis      Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who
turbis lapidantesque Paulum traxerunt        persuaded the people, and having stoned
extra civitatem aestimantes eum mortuum      Paul, drew him out of the city,
esse                                         supposing he had been dead.

14:19  circumdantibus autem eum              20.  Howbeit, as the disciples stood
discipulis surgens intravit civitatem        round about him, he rose up, and came
et postera die profectus est cum             into the city: and the next day he
Barnaba in Derben                            departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

14:20  cumque evangelizassent civitati       21.  And when they had preached the
illi et docuissent multos reversi sunt       gospel to that city, and had taught
Lystram et Iconium et Antiochiam             many, they returned again to Lystra,
                                             and to Iconium, and Antioch,

14:21  confirmantes animas discipulorum      22.  Confirming the souls of the
exhortantes ut permanerent in fide et        disciples, and exhorting them to
quoniam per multas tribulationes             continue in the faith, and that we must
oportet nos intrare in regnum Dei            through much tribulation enter into the
                                             kingdom of God.

14:22  et cum constituissent illis per       23.  And when they had ordained them
singulas ecclesias presbyteros et            elders in every church, and had prayed
orassent cum ieiunationibus                  with fasting, they commended them to
commendaverunt eos Domino in quem            the Lord, on whom they believed.

14:23  transeuntesque Pisidiam venerunt      24.  And after they had passed
Pamphiliam                                   throughout Pisidia, they came to
                                             Pamphylia.

14:24  et loquentes in Pergen verbum         25.  And when they had preached the
Domini descenderunt in Attaliam              word in Perga, they went down into
                                             Attalia:

14:25  et inde navigaverunt Antiochiam       26.  And thence sailed to Antioch, from
unde erant traditi gratiae Dei in opus       whence they had been recommended to the
quod conpleverunt                            grace of God for the work which they
                                             fulfilled.

14:26  cum autem venissent et                27.  And when they were come, and had
congregassent ecclesiam rettulerunt          gathered the church together, they
quanta fecisset Deus cum illis quia          rehearsed all that God had done with
aperuisset gentibus ostium fidei             them, and how he had opened the door of
                                             faith unto the Gentiles.

14:27  morati sunt autem tempus non          28.  And there they abode long time
modicum cum discipulis                       with the disciples.
