Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye quam ad vos nunc reddo rationem my defence which I make now unto you. 22:2 cum audissent autem quia hebraea 2. (And when they heard that he spake lingua loquitur ad illos magis in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept praestiterunt silentium the more silence: and he saith,) 22:3 et dixit ego sum vir iudaeus 3. I am verily a man which am a Jew, natus Tarso Ciliciae nutritus autem in born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet ista civitate secus pedes Gamalihel brought up in this city at the feet of eruditus iuxta veritatem paternae legis Gamaliel, and taught according to the aemulator legis sicut et vos omnes perfect manner of the law of the estis hodie fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. 22:4 qui hanc viam persecutus sum 4. And they that were with me saw viderunt vocem autem non audierunt eius indeed the light, and were afraid; but qui loquebatur mecum they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. 22:10 et dixi quid faciam Domine 10. And I said, What shall I do, LORD? Dominus autem dixit ad me surgens vade And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and Damascum et ibi tibi dicetur de omnibus go into Damascus; and there it shall be quae te oporteat facere told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. 22:11 et cum non viderem prae 11. And he said, The God of our nostrorum praeordinavit te ut fathers hath chosen thee, that thou cognosceres voluntatem eius et videres shouldest know his will, and see that Iustum et audires vocem ex ore eius Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. 22:15 quia eris testis illius ad omnes 15. For thou shalt be his witness unto homines eorum quae vidisti et audisti all men of what thou hast seen and heard. 22:16 et nunc quid moraris exsurge 16. And now why tarriest thou? arise, baptizare et ablue peccata tua invocato and be baptized, and wash away thy nomine ipsius sins, calling on the name of the Lord. 22:17 factum est autem revertenti mihi 17. And it came to pass, that, when I in Hierusalem et oranti in templo fieri was come again to Jerusalem, even while me in stupore mentis I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 22:18 et videre illum dicentem mihi 18. And saw him saying unto me, Make festina et exi velociter ex Hierusalem haste, and get thee quickly out of quoniam non recipient testimonium tuum Jerusalem: for they will not receive de me thy testimony concerning me. 22:19 et ego dixi Domine ipsi sciunt 19. And when the blood of thy martyr Stephani testis tui ego adstabam et Stephen was shed, I also was standing consentiebam et custodiebam vestimenta by, and consenting unto his death, and interficientium illum kept the raiment of them that slew him. 22:21 et dixit ad me vade quoniam ego 21. And he said unto me, Depart: for I in nationes longe mittam te will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles. 22:22 audiebant autem eum usque ad hoc 22. And they gave him audience unto verbum et levaverunt vocem suam this word, and then lifted up their dicentes tolle de terra eiusmodi non voices, and said, Away with such a enim fas est eum vivere fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live. 22:23 vociferantibus autem eis et 23. And as they cried out, and cast proicientibus vestimenta sua et off their clothes, and threw dust into pulverem iactantibus in aerem the air, 22:24 iussit tribunus induci eum in 24. The chief captain commanded him to castra et flagellis caedi et torqueri be brought into the castle, and bade eum ut sciret propter quam causam sic that he should be examined by adclamarent ei scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him. 22:25 et cum adstrinxissent eum loris 25. And as they bound him with thongs, dixit adstanti sibi centurioni Paulus Paul said unto the centurion that stood si hominem romanum et indemnatum licet by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a vobis flagellare man that is a Roman, and uncondemned? 22:26 quo audito centurio accessit ad 26. When the centurion heard that, he tribunum et nuntiavit dicens quid went and told the chief captain, acturus es hic enim homo civis romanus saying, Take heed what thou doest: for est this man is a Roman. 22:27 accedens autem tribunus dixit 27. Then the chief captain came, and illi dic mihi tu Romanus es at ille said unto him, Tell me, art thou a dixit etiam Roman? He said, Yea. 22:28 et respondit tribunus ego multa 28. And the chief captain answered, summa civitatem hanc consecutus sum et With a great sum obtained I this Paulus ait ego autem et natus sum freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born. 22:29 protinus ergo discesserunt ab 29. Then straightway they departed illo qui eum torturi erant tribunus from him which should have examined quoque timuit postquam rescivit quia him: and the chief captain also was civis romanus esset et quia alligasset afraid, after he knew that he was a eum Roman, and because he had bound him. 22:30 postera autem die volens scire 30.
