18:1  post haec egressus ab Athenis          1.  After these things Paul departed
venit Corinthum                              from Athens, and came to Corinth;

18:2  et inveniens quendam Iudaeum           2.  And found a certain Jew named
nomine Aquilam Ponticum genere qui           Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come
nuper venerat ab Italia et Priscillam        from Italy, with his wife Priscilla;
uxorem eius eo quod praecepisset             (because that Claudius had commanded
Claudius discedere omnes Iudaeos a Roma      all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came
accessit ad eos                              unto them.

18:3  et quia eiusdem erat artis             3.  And because he was of the same
manebat apud eos et operabatur erat          craft, he abode with them, and wrought:
autem scenofactoriae artis                   for by their occupation they were
                                             tentmakers.

18:4  []                                     4.  And he reasoned in the synagogue
                                             every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews
                                             and the Greeks.

18:5  cum venissent autem de Macedonia       5.  And when Silas and Timotheus were
Silas et Timotheus instabat verbo            come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed
Paulus testificans Iudaeis esse              in the spirit, and testified to the
Christum Iesum                               Jews that Jesus was Christ.

18:6  contradicentibus autem eis et          6.  And when they opposed themselves,
blasphemantibus excutiens vestimenta         and blasphemed, he shook his raiment,
dixit ad eos sanguis vester super caput      and said unto them, Your blood be upon
vestrum mundus ego ex hoc ad gentes          your own heads; I am clean; from
vadam                                        henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

18:7  et migrans inde intravit in domum      7.  And he departed thence, and entered
cuiusdam nomine Titi Iusti colentis          into a certain man's house, named
Deum cuius domus erat coniuncta              Justus, one that worshipped God, whose
synagogae                                    house joined hard to the synagogue.

18:8  Crispus autem archisynagogus           8.  And Crispus, the chief ruler of the
credidit Domino cum omni domo sua et         synagogue, believed on the Lord with
multi Corinthiorum audientes credebant       all his house; and many of the

18:9  dixit autem Dominus nocte per          9.  Then spake the Lord to Paul in the

18:10  propter quod ego sum tecum et         10.  For I am with thee, and no man
nemo adponetur tibi ut noceat te             shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I
quoniam populus est mihi multus in hac       have much people in this city.

18:11  sedit autem annum et sex menses       11.  And he continued there a year and
docens apud eos verbum Dei                   six months, teaching the word of God
                                             among them.

18:12  Gallione autem proconsule             12.  And when Gallio was the deputy of
Achaiae insurrexerunt uno animo Iudaei       Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with
in Paulum et adduxerunt eum ad tribunal      one accord against Paul, and brought
                                             him to the judgment seat,

18:13  dicentes quia contra legem hic        13.  Saying, This fellow persuadeth men
persuadet hominibus colere Deum              to worship God contrary to the law.

18:14  incipiente autem Paulo aperire        14.  And when Paul was now about to
os dixit Gallio ad Iudaeos si quidem         open his mouth, Gallio said unto the
esset iniquum aliquid aut facinus            Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or
pessimum o viri iudaei recte vos             wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason
sustinerem                                   would that I should bear with you:

18:15  si vero quaestiones sunt de           15.  But if it be a question of words
verbo et nominibus et legis vestrae vos      and names, and of your law, look ye to
ipsi videritis iudex ego horum nolo esse     it; for I will be no judge of such
                                             matters.

18:16  et minavit eos a tribunali            16.  And he drave them from the
                                             judgment seat.

18:17  adprehendentes autem omnes            17.  Then all the Greeks took
Sosthenen principem synagogae                Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the

18:19  devenitque Ephesum et illos ibi       19.  And he came to Ephesus, and left
reliquit ipse vero ingressus synagogam       them there: but he himself entered into
disputavit cum Iudaeis                       the synagogue, and reasoned with the
                                             Jews.

18:20  rogantibus autem eis ut ampliori      20.  When they desired him to tarry
tempore maneret non consensit                longer time with them, he consented not;

18:21  sed valefaciens et dicens iterum      21.  But bade them farewell, saying, I
revertar ad vos Deo volente profectus        must by all means keep this feast that
est ab Epheso                                cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return
                                             again unto you, if God will. And he
                                             sailed from Ephesus.

18:22  et descendens Caesaream ascendit      22.  And when he had landed at
et salutavit ecclesiam et descendit          Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the
Antiochiam                                   church, he went down to Antioch.

18:23  et facto ibi aliquanto tempore        23.  And after he had spent some time
profectus est perambulans ex ordine          there, he departed, and went over all

confirmans omnes discipulos                  order, strengthening all the disciples.

18:24  Iudaeus autem quidam Apollo           24.  And a certain Jew named Apollos,
nomine Alexandrinus natione vir              born at Alexandria, an eloquent man,
eloquens devenit Ephesum potens in           and mighty in the scriptures, came to
scripturis                                   Ephesus.

18:25  hic erat edoctus viam Domini et       25.  This man was instructed in the way
fervens spiritu loquebatur et docebat        of the Lord; and being fervent in the
diligenter ea quae sunt Iesu sciens          spirit, he spake and taught diligently
tantum baptisma Iohannis                     the things of the Lord, knowing only
                                             the baptism of John.

18:26  hic ergo coepit fiducialiter          26.  And he began to speak boldly in
agere in synagoga quem cum audissent         the synagogue: whom when Aquila and
Priscilla et Aquila adsumpserunt eum et      Priscilla had heard, they took him unto
diligentius exposuerunt ei viam Dei          them, and expounded unto him the way of
                                             God more perfectly.

18:27  cum autem vellet ire Achaiam          27.  And when he was disposed to pass
exhortati fratres scripserunt                into Achaia, the brethren wrote,
discipulis ut susciperent eum qui cum        exhorting the disciples to receive him:
venisset contulit multum his qui             who, when he was come, helped them much
crediderant                                  which had believed through grace:

18:28  vehementer enim Iudaeos               28.  For he mightily convinced the
revincebat publice ostendens per             Jews, and that publickly, shewing by
scripturas esse Christum Iesum               the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
