And Saul was consenting unto his persecutio magna in ecclesia quae erat death. And at that time there was a Hierosolymis et omnes dispersi sunt per great persecution against the church regiones Iudaeae et Samariae praeter which was at Jerusalem; and they were apostolos all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. 8:2 curaverunt autem Stephanum viri 2. And devout men carried Stephen to timorati et fecerunt planctum magnum his burial, and made great lamentation super illum over him. 8:3 Saulus vero devastabat ecclesiam 3. As for Saul, he made havock of the per domos intrans et trahens viros ac church, entering into every house, and mulieres tradebat in custodiam haling men and women committed them to prison. 8:4 igitur qui dispersi erant 4. Therefore they that were scattered pertransiebant evangelizantes verbum abroad went every where preaching the word. 8:5 Philippus autem descendens in 5. Then Philip went down to the city civitatem Samariae praedicabat illis of Samaria, and preached Christ unto Christum them. 8:6 intendebant autem turbae his quae 6. And the people with one accord gave a Philippo dicebantur unianimiter heed unto those things which Philip audientes et videntes signa quae spake, hearing and seeing the miracles faciebat which he did. 8:7 multi enim eorum qui habebant 7. For unclean spirits, crying with spiritus inmundos clamantes voce magna loud voice, came out of many that were exiebant multi autem paralytici et possessed with them: and many taken claudi curati sunt with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8:8 factum est ergo magnum gaudium in 8. And there was great joy in that illa civitate city. 8:9 vir autem quidam nomine Simon qui 9. But there was a certain man, called ante fuerat in civitate magus seducens Simon, which beforetime in the same gentem Samariae dicens esse se aliquem city used sorcery, and bewitched the magnum people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: 8:10 cui auscultabant omnes a minimo 10. To whom they all gave heed, from usque ad maximum dicentes hic est the least to the greatest, saying, This virtus Dei quae vocatur Magna man is the great power of God. 8:11 adtendebant autem eum propter 11. And to him they had regard, quod multo tempore magicis suis because that of long time he had dementasset eos bewitched them with sorceries. 8:12 cum vero credidissent Philippo 12. But when they believed Philip evangelizanti de regno Dei et nomine preaching the things concerning the Iesu Christi baptizabantur viri ac kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus mulieres Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 8:13 tunc Simon et ipse credidit et 13. Then Simon himself believed also: cum baptizatus esset adherebat Philippo and when he was baptized, he continued videns etiam signa et virtutes maximas with Philip, and wondered, beholding fieri stupens admirabatur the miracles and signs which were done. 8:14 cum autem audissent apostoli qui 14. Now when the apostles which were erant Hierosolymis quia recepit Samaria at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had verbum Dei miserunt ad illos Petrum et received the word of God, they sent Iohannem unto them Peter and John: 8:15 qui cum venissent oraverunt pro 15. Who, when they were come down, ipsis ut acciperent Spiritum Sanctum prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 8:16 nondum enim in quemquam illorum 16. (For as yet he was fallen upon venerat sed baptizati tantum erant in none of them: only they were baptized nomine Domini Iesu in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 8:17 tunc inponebant manus super illos 17. Then laid they their hands on et accipiebant Spiritum Sanctum them, and they received the Holy Ghost. 8:18 cum vidisset autem Simon quia per 18. And when Simon saw that through inpositionem manus apostolorum daretur laying on of the apostles' hands the Spiritus Sanctus obtulit eis pecuniam Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, 8:19 dicens date et mihi hanc 19. Saying, Give me also this power, potestatem ut cuicumque inposuero manus that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may accipiat Spiritum Sanctum Petrus autem receive the Holy Ghost. dixit ad eum 8:20 pecunia tua tecum sit in 20. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perditionem quoniam donum Dei perish with thee, because thou hast existimasti pecunia possideri thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. 8:21 non est tibi pars neque sors in 21. Thou hast neither part nor lot in sermone isto cor enim tuum non est this matter: for thy heart is not right rectum coram Deo in the sight of God. 8:22 paenitentiam itaque age ab hac 22. Repent therefore of this thy nequitia tua et roga Deum si forte wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps remittatur tibi haec cogitatio cordis the thought of thine heart may be tui forgiven thee. 8:23 in felle enim amaritudinis et 23. For I perceive that thou art in obligatione iniquitatis video te esse the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. 8:24 respondens autem Simon dixit 24. Then answered Simon, and said, precamini vos pro me ad Dominum ut Pray ye to the LORD for me, that none nihil veniat super me horum quae of these things which ye have spoken dixistis come upon me. 8:25 et illi quidem testificati et 25. And they, when they had testified locuti verbum Domini rediebant and preached the word of the Lord, Hierosolymam et multis regionibus returned to Jerusalem, and preached the Samaritanorum evangelizabant gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. 8:26 angelus autem Domini locutus est 26. And the angel of the Lord spake ad Philippum dicens surge et vade unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go contra meridianum ad viam quae toward the south unto the way that descendit ab Hierusalem in Gazam haec goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, est deserta which is desert. 8:27 et surgens abiit et ecce vir 27. And he arose and went: and, aethiops eunuchus potens Candacis behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of reginae Aethiopum qui erat super omnes great authority under Candace queen of gazas eius venerat adorare in Hierusalem the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, 8:28 et revertebatur sedens super 28. Was returning, and sitting in his currum suum legensque prophetam Esaiam chariot read Esaias the prophet. 8:29 dixit autem Spiritus Philippo 29. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, accede et adiunge te ad currum istum Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. 8:30 adcurrens autem Philippus audivit 30. And Philip ran thither to him, and illum legentem Esaiam prophetam et heard him read the prophet Esaias, and dixit putasne intellegis quae legis said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 8:31 qui ait et quomodo possum si non 31. And he said, How can I, except aliquis ostenderit mihi rogavitque some man should guide me? And he Philippum ut ascenderet et sederet secum desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. 8:32 locus autem scripturae quam 32. The place of the scripture which legebat erat hic tamquam ovis ad he read was this, He was led as a sheep occisionem ductus est et sicut agnus to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb coram tondente se sine voce sic non before his shearer, so opened he not aperuit os suum his mouth: 8:33 in humilitate iudicium eius 33. In his humiliation his judgment sublatum est generationem illius quis was taken away: and who shall declare enarrabit quoniam tollitur de terra his generation? for his life is taken vita eius from the earth. 8:34 respondens autem eunuchus 34. And the eunuch answered Philip, Philippo dixit obsecro te de quo and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh propheta dicit hoc de se an de alio the prophet this? of himself, or of aliquo some other man? 8:35 aperiens autem Philippus os suum 35. Then Philip opened his mouth, and et incipiens ab scriptura ista began at the same scripture, and evangelizavit illi Iesum preached unto him Jesus. 8:36 et dum irent per viam venerunt ad 36. And as they went on their way, quandam aquam et ait eunuchus ecce aqua they came unto a certain water: and the quid prohibet me baptizari eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 8:37 [] 37. And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 8:38 et iussit stare currum et 38. And he commanded the chariot to descenderunt uterque in aquam Philippus stand still: and they went down both et eunuchus et baptizavit eum into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 8:39 cum autem ascendissent de aqua 39. And when they were come up out of Spiritus Domini rapuit Philippum et the water, the Spirit of the Lord amplius non vidit eum eunuchus ibat caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw enim per viam suam gaudens him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. 8:40 Philippus autem inventus est in 40. But Philip was found at Azotus: Azoto et pertransiens evangelizabat and passing through he preached in all civitatibus cunctis donec veniret the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
