Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: Lystram et ecce discipulus quidam erat and, behold, a certain disciple was ibi nomine Timotheus filius mulieris there, named Timotheus, the son of a iudaeae fidelis patre gentili certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: 16:2 huic testimonium reddebant qui in 2. The same followed Paul and us, and clamabat dicens isti homines servi Dei cried, saying, These men are the excelsi sunt qui adnuntiant vobis viam servants of the most high God, which salutis shew unto us the way of salvation. 16:18 hoc autem faciebat multis diebus 18. And this did she many days. And the multitude rose up together et magistratus scissis tunicis eorum against them: and the magistrates rent iusserunt virgis caedi off their clothes, and commanded to beat them. 16:23 et cum multas plagas eis 23. And when they had laid many inposuissent miserunt eos in carcerem stripes upon them, they cast them into praecipientes custodi ut diligenter prison, charging the jailor to keep custodiret eos them safely: 16:24 qui cum tale praeceptum 24. But Paul cried with a loud voice, dicens nihil feceris tibi mali universi saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are enim hic sumus all here. 16:29 petitoque lumine introgressus 29. Then he called for a light, and est et tremefactus procidit Paulo et sprang in, and came trembling, and fell Silae down before Paul and Silas, 16:30 et producens eos foras ait 30. And brought them out, and said, domini quid me oportet facere ut salvus Sirs, what must I do to be saved? fiam 16:31 at illi dixerunt crede in Domino 31. And they said, Believe on the Lord Iesu et salvus eris tu et domus tua Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 16:32 et locuti sunt ei verbum Domini 32. And they spake unto him the word cum omnibus qui erant in domo eius of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 16:33 et tollens eos in illa hora 33. And he took them the same hour of noctis lavit plagas eorum et baptizatus the night, and washed their stripes; est ipse et omnes eius continuo and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. 16:34 cumque perduxisset eos in domum 34. And when he had brought them into suam adposuit eis mensam et laetatus his house, he set meat before them, and est cum omni domo sua credens Deo rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. 16:35 et cum dies factus esset 35. And when it was day, the miserunt magistratus lictores dicentes magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, dimitte homines illos Let those men go. 16:36 nuntiavit autem custos carceris 36. And the keeper of the prison told verba haec Paulo quia miserunt this saying to Paul, The magistrates magistratus ut dimittamini nunc igitur have sent to let you go: now therefore exeuntes ite in pace depart, and go in peace. 16:37 Paulus autem dixit eis caesos 37. But Paul said unto them, They have nos publice indemnatos homines romanos beaten us openly uncondemned, being miserunt in carcerem et nunc occulte Romans, and have cast us into prison; nos eiciunt non ita sed veniant and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out. 16:38 et ipsi nos eiciant nuntiaverunt 38. And the serjeants told these words autem magistratibus lictores verba haec unto the magistrates: and they feared, timueruntque audito quod Romani essent when they heard that they were Romans. 16:39 et venientes deprecati sunt eos 39. And they came and besought them, et educentes rogabant ut egrederentur and brought them out, and desired them urbem to depart out of the city. 16:40 exeuntes autem de carcere 40.
