9:1  Saulus autem adhuc inspirans            1.  And Saul, yet breathing out
minarum et caedis in discipulos Domini       threatenings and slaughter against the
accessit ad principem sacerdotum             disciples of the Lord, went unto the
                                             high priest,

9:2  et petiit ab eo Epistolas in            2.  And desired of him letters to
Damascum ad synagogas ut si quos             Damascus to the synagogues, that if he
invenisset huius viae viros ac mulieres      found any of this way, whether they
vinctos perduceret in Hierusalem             were men or women, he might bring them
                                             bound unto Jerusalem.

9:3  et cum iter faceret contigit ut         3.  And as he journeyed, he came near
adpropinquaret Damasco et subito             Damascus: and suddenly there shined
circumfulsit eum lux de caelo                round about him a light from heaven:

9:4  et cadens in terram audivit vocem       4.  And he fell to the earth, and heard
dicentem sibi Saule Saule quid me            a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul,
persequeris                                  why persecutest thou me?

9:5  qui dixit quis es Domine et ille        5.  And he said, Who art thou, Lord?
ego sum Iesus quem tu persequeris            And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou
                                             persecutest: it is hard for thee to
                                             kick against the pricks.

9:6  []                                      6.  And he trembling and astonished
                                             said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to
                                             do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise,
                                             and go into the city, and it shall be
                                             told thee what thou must do.

9:7  sed surge et ingredere civitatem        7.  And the men which journeyed with
et dicetur tibi quid te oporteat facere      him stood speechless, hearing a voice,
viri autem illi qui comitabantur cum eo      but seeing no man.
stabant stupefacti audientes quidem
vocem neminem autem videntes

9:8  surrexit autem Saulus de terra          8.  And Saul arose from the earth; and
apertisque oculis nihil videbat ad           when his eyes were opened, he saw no
manus autem illum trahentes                  man: but they led him by the hand, and
introduxerunt Damascum                       brought him into Damascus.

9:9  et erat tribus diebus non videns        9.  And he was three days without
et non manducavit neque bibit                sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

9:10  erat autem quidam discipulus           10.  And there was a certain disciple
Damasci nomine Ananias et dixit ad           at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him
illum in visu Dominus Anania at ille         said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And
ait ecce ego Domine                          he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

9:11  et Dominus ad illum surgens vade       11.  And the Lord said unto him, Arise,
in vicum qui vocatur Rectus et quaere        and go into the street which is called
in domo Iudae Saulum nomine Tarsensem        Straight, and enquire in the house of
ecce enim orat                               Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus:
                                             for, behold, he prayeth,

9:12  et vidit virum Ananiam nomine          12.  And hath seen in a vision a man
introeuntem et inponentem sibi manus ut      named Ananias coming in, and putting
visum recipiat                               his hand on him, that he might receive
                                             his sight.

9:13  respondit autem Ananias Domine         13.  Then Ananias answered, Lord, I
audivi a multis de viro hoc quanta mala      have heard by many of this man, how
sanctis tuis fecerit in Hierusalem           much evil he hath done to thy saints at
                                             Jerusalem:

9:14  et hic habet potestatem a              14.  And here he hath authority from
principibus sacerdotum alligandi omnes       the chief priests to bind all that call
qui invocant nomen tuum                      on thy name.

9:15  dixit autem ad eum Dominus vade        15.  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy
quoniam vas electionis est mihi iste ut      way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me,
portet nomen meum coram gentibus et          to bear my name before the Gentiles,
regibus et filiis Israhel                    and kings, and the children of Israel:

9:16  ego enim ostendam illi quanta          16.  For I will shew him how great
oporteat eum pro nomine meo pati             things he must suffer for my name's
                                             sake.

9:17  et abiit Ananias et introivit in       17.  And Ananias went his way, and
domum et inponens ei manus dixit Saule       entered into the house; and putting his
frater Dominus misit me Iesus qui            hands on him said, Brother Saul, the
apparuit tibi in via qua veniebas ut         Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto
videas et implearis Spiritu Sancto           thee in the way as thou camest, hath
                                             sent me, that thou mightest receive thy
                                             sight, and be filled with the Holy
                                             Ghost.

9:18  et confestim ceciderunt ab oculis      18.  And immediately there fell from
eius tamquam squamae et visum recepit        his eyes as it had been scales: and he
et surgens baptizatus est                    received sight forthwith, and arose,
                                             and was baptized.

9:19  et cum accepisset cibum                19.  And when he had received meat, he
confortatus est fuit autem cum               was strengthened. Then was Saul certain
discipulis qui erant Damasci per dies        days with the disciples which were at
aliquot                                      Damascus.

9:20  et continuo in synagogis               20.  And straightway he preached Christ
praedicabat Iesum quoniam hic est            in the synagogues, that he is the Son
Filius Dei                                   of God.

9:21  stupebant autem omnes qui              21.  But all that heard him were
audiebant et dicebant nonne hic est qui      amazed, and said; Is not this he that
expugnabat in Hierusalem eos qui             destroyed them which called on this
invocabant nomen istud et huc ad hoc         name in Jerusalem, and came hither for
venit ut vinctos illos duceret ad            that intent, that he might bring them
principes sacerdotum                         bound unto the chief priests?

9:22  Saulus autem magis convalescebat       22.  But Saul increased the more in
et confundebat Iudaeos qui habitabant        strength, and confounded the Jews which
Damasci adfirmans quoniam hic est            dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is
Christus                                     very Christ.

9:23  cum implerentur autem dies multi       23.  And after that many days were
consilium fecerunt Iudaei ut eum             fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to
interficerent                                kill him:

9:24  notae autem factae sunt Saulo          24.  But their laying await was known
insidiae eorum custodiebant autem et         of Saul. And they watched the gates day

9:25  accipientes autem discipuli eius       25.  Then the disciples took him by
nocte per murum dimiserunt eum               night, and let him down by the wall in

9:26  cum autem venisset in Hierusalem       26.  And when Saul was come to
temptabat iungere se discipulis et           Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself
omnes timebant eum non credentes quia        to the disciples: but they were all
esset discipulus                             afraid of him, and believed not that he
                                             was a disciple.

9:27  Barnabas autem adprehensum illum       27.  But Barnabas took him, and brought
duxit ad apostolos et narravit illis         him to the apostles, and declared unto
quomodo in via vidisset Dominum et quia      them how he had seen the Lord in the
locutus est ei et quomodo in Damasco         way, and that he had spoken to him, and
fiducialiter egerit in nomine Iesu           how he had preached boldly at Damascus
                                             in the name of Jesus.

9:28  et erat cum illis intrans et           28.  And he was with them coming in and
exiens in Hierusalem et fiducialiter         going out at Jerusalem.

9:29  loquebatur quoque et disputabat        29.  And he spake boldly in the name of
cum Graecis illi autem quaerebant            the Lord Jesus, and disputed against
occidere eum                                 the Grecians: but they went about to
                                             slay him.

9:30  quod cum cognovissent fratres          30.  Which when the brethren knew, they
deduxerunt eum Caesaream et dimiserunt       brought him down to Caesarea, and sent
Tarsum                                       him forth to Tarsus.

9:31  ecclesia quidem per totam Iudaeam      31.  Then had the churches rest
et Galilaeam et Samariam habebat pacem       throughout all Judaea and Galilee and
et aedificabatur ambulans in timore          Samaria, and were edified; and walking
Domini et consolatione Sancti Spiritus       in the fear of the Lord, and in the
replebatur                                   comfort of the Holy Ghost, were
                                             multiplied.

9:32  factum est autem Petrum dum            32.  And it came to pass, as Peter
pertransiret universos devenire et ad        passed throughout all quarters, he came
sanctos qui habitabant Lyddae                down also to the saints which dwelt at
                                             Lydda.

9:33  invenit autem ibi hominem quendam      33.  And there he found a certain man
nomine Aeneam ab annis octo iacentem in      named Aeneas, which had kept his bed
grabatto qui erat paralyticus                eight years, and was sick of the palsy.

9:34  et ait illi Petrus Aeneas sanat        34.  And Peter said unto him, Aeneas,
te Iesus Christus surge et sterne tibi       Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise,
et continuo surrexit                         and make thy bed. And he arose
                                             immediately.

9:35  et viderunt illum omnes qui            35.  And all that dwelt at Lydda and
habitabant Lyddae et Saronae qui             Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.
conversi sunt ad Dominum

9:36  in Ioppe autem fuit quaedam            36.  Now there was at Joppa a certain
discipula nomine Tabitas quae                disciple named Tabitha, which by
interpretata dicitur Dorcas haec erat        interpretation is called Dorcas: this
plena operibus bonis et elemosynis quas      woman was full of good works and
faciebat                                     almsdeeds which she did.

9:37  factum est autem in diebus illis       37.  And it came to pass in those days,
ut infirmata moreretur quam cum              that she was sick, and died: whom when
lavissent posuerunt eam in cenaculo          they had washed, they laid her in an
                                             upper chamber.

9:38  cum autem prope esset Lydda ab         38.  And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to
Ioppe discipuli audientes quia Petrus        Joppa, and the disciples had heard that
esset in ea miserunt duos viros ad eum       Peter was there, they sent unto him two
rogantes ne pigriteris venire usque ad       men, desiring him that he would not
nos                                          delay to come to them.

9:39  exsurgens autem Petrus venit cum       39.  Then Peter arose and went with
illis et cum advenisset duxerunt illum       them. When he was come, they brought
in cenaculum et circumsteterunt illum        him into the upper chamber: and all the
omnes viduae flentes et ostendentes          widows stood by him weeping, and
tunicas et vestes quas faciebat illis        shewing the coats and garments which
Dorcas                                       Dorcas made, while she was with them.

9:40  eiectis autem omnibus foras            40.  But Peter put them all forth, and
Petrus ponens genua oravit et conversus      kneeled down, and prayed; and turning
ad corpus dixit Tabita surge at illa         him to the body said, Tabitha, arise.
aperuit oculos suos et viso Petro            And she opened her eyes: and when she
resedit                                      saw Peter, she sat up.

9:41  dans autem illi manum erexit eam       41.  And he gave her his hand, and
et cum vocasset sanctos et viduas            lifted her up, and when he had called
adsignavit eam vivam                         the saints and widows, presented her
                                             alive.

9:42  notum autem factum est per             42.  And it was known throughout all
universam Ioppen et crediderunt multi        Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.

9:43  factum est autem ut dies multos        43.  And it came to pass, that he
moraretur in Ioppe apud quendam Simonem      tarried many days in Joppa with one
coriarium                                    Simon a tanner.
