6:1 in diebus autem illis crescente 1. And in those days, when the number
numero discipulorum factus est murmur of the disciples was multiplied, there
Graecorum adversus Hebraeos eo quod arose a murmuring of the Grecians
dispicerentur in ministerio cotidiano against the Hebrews, because their
viduae eorum widows were neglected in the daily
                                             ministration.

6:2 convocantes autem duodecim 2. Then the twelve called the
multitudinem discipulorum dixerunt non multitude of the disciples unto them,
est aequum nos derelinquere verbum Dei and said, It is not reason that we
et ministrare mensis should leave the word of God, and serve
                                             tables.

6:3 considerate ergo fratres viros ex 3. Wherefore, brethren, look ye out
vobis boni testimonii septem plenos among you seven men of honest report,
Spiritu et sapientia quos constituamus full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom
super hoc opus we may appoint over this business.

6:4 nos vero orationi et ministerio 4. But we will give ourselves
verbi instantes erimus continually to prayer, and to the
                                             ministry of the word.

6:5 et placuit sermo coram omni 5. And the saying pleased the whole
multitudine et elegerunt Stephanum multitude: and they chose Stephen, a
virum plenum fide et Spiritu Sancto et man full of faith and of the Holy
Philippum et Prochorum et Nicanorem et Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and
Timonem et Parmenam et Nicolaum advenam Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and
Antiochenum Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6:6 hos statuerunt ante conspectum 6. Whom they set before the apostles:
apostolorum et orantes inposuerunt eis and when they had prayed, they laid
manus their hands on them.

6:7 et verbum Dei crescebat et 7. And the word of God increased; and
multiplicabatur numerus discipulorum in the number of the disciples multiplied
Hierusalem valde multa etiam turba in Jerusalem greatly; and a great
sacerdotum oboediebat fidei company of the priests were obedient to
                                             the faith.

6:8 Stephanus autem plenus gratia et 8. And Stephen, full of faith and
fortitudine faciebat prodigia et signa power, did great wonders and miracles
magna in populo among the people.

6:9 surrexerunt autem quidam de 9. Then there arose certain of the
synagoga quae appellatur Libertinorum synagogue, which is called the
et Cyrenensium et Alexandrinorum et synagogue of the Libertines, and
eorum qui erant a Cilicia et Asia Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of
disputantes cum Stephano them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing
                                             with Stephen.

6:10 et non poterant resistere 10. And they were not able to resist
sapientiae et Spiritui quo loquebatur the wisdom and the spirit by which he
                                             spake.

6:11 tunc submiserunt viros qui 11. Then they suborned men, which
dicerent se audisse eum dicentem verba said, We have heard him speak
blasphemiae in Mosen et Deum blasphemous words against Moses, and
                                             against God.

6:12 commoverunt itaque plebem et 12. And they stirred up the people,
seniores et scribas et concurrentes and the elders, and the scribes, and
rapuerunt eum et adduxerunt in concilium came upon him, and caught him, and
                                             brought him to the council,

6:13 et statuerunt testes falsos 13. And set up false witnesses, which
dicentes homo iste non cessat loqui said, This man ceaseth not to speak
verba adversus locum sanctum et legem blasphemous words against this holy
                                             place, and the law:

6:14 audivimus enim eum dicentem 14. For we have heard him say, that
quoniam Iesus Nazarenus hic destruet this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy
locum istum et mutabit traditiones quas this place, and shall change the
tradidit nobis Moses customs which Moses delivered us.

6:15 et intuentes eum omnes qui 15. And all that sat in the council,
sedebant in concilio viderunt faciem looking stedfastly on him, saw his face
eius tamquam faciem angeli as it had been the face of an angel.
