15:1 et quidam descendentes de Iudaea 1. And certain men which came down
docebant fratres quia nisi from Judaea taught the brethren, and
circumcidamini secundum morem Mosi non said, Except ye be circumcised after
potestis salvi fieri the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

15:2 facta ergo seditione non minima 2. When therefore Paul and Barnabas
Paulo et Barnabae adversum illos had no small dissension and disputation
statuerunt ut ascenderent Paulus et with them, they determined that Paul
Barnabas et quidam alii ex illis ad and Barnabas, and certain other of
apostolos et presbyteros in Hierusalem them, should go up to Jerusalem unto
super hac quaestione the apostles and elders about this
                                             question.

15:3 illi igitur deducti ab ecclesia 3. And being brought on their way by
pertransiebant Foenicen et Samariam the church, they passed through Phenice
narrantes conversionem gentium et and Samaria, declaring the conversion
faciebant gaudium magnum omnibus of the Gentiles: and they caused great
fratribus joy unto all the brethren.

15:4 cum autem venissent Hierosolymam 4. And when they were come to
suscepti sunt ab ecclesia et ab Jerusalem, they were received of the
apostolis et senioribus adnuntiantes church, and of the apostles and elders,
quanta Deus fecisset cum illis and they declared all things that God
                                             had done with them.

15:5 surrexerunt autem quidam de 5. But there rose up certain of the
heresi Pharisaeorum qui crediderant sect of the Pharisees which believed,
dicentes quia oportet circumcidi eos saying, That it was needful to
praecipere quoque servare legem Mosi circumcise them, and to command them to
                                             keep the law of Moses.

15:6 conveneruntque apostoli et 6. And the apostles and elders came
seniores videre de verbo hoc together for to consider of this matter.

15:7 cum autem magna conquisitio 7. And when there had been much
fieret surgens Petrus dixit ad eos viri disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto
fratres vos scitis quoniam ab antiquis them, Men and brethren, ye know how
diebus in nobis elegit Deus per os meum that a good while ago God made choice
audire gentes verbum evangelii et among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth
credere should hear the word of the gospel, and
                                             believe.

15:8 et qui novit corda Deus 8. And God, which knoweth the hearts,
testimonium perhibuit dans illis bare them witness, giving them the Holy
Spiritum Sanctum sicut et nobis              Ghost, even as he did unto us;

15:9 et nihil discrevit inter nos et 9. And put no difference between us
illos fide purificans corda eorum and them, purifying their hearts by
                                             faith.

15:10 nunc ergo quid temptatis Deum 10. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to
inponere iugum super cervicem put a yoke upon the neck of the
discipulorum quod neque patres nostri disciples, which neither our fathers
neque nos portare potuimus nor we were able to bear?

15:11 sed per gratiam Domini Iesu 11. But we believe that through the
credimus salvari quemadmodum et illi grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall
                                             be saved, even as they.

15:12 tacuit autem omnis multitudo et 12. Then all the multitude kept
audiebant Barnaban et Paulum narrantes silence, and gave audience to Barnabas
quanta fecisset Deus signa et prodigia and Paul, declaring what miracles and
in gentibus per eos wonders God had wrought among the
                                             Gentiles by them.

15:13 et postquam tacuerunt respondit 13. And after they had held their
Iacobus dicens viri fratres audite me peace, James answered, saying, Men and
                                             brethren, hearken unto me:

15:14 Simeon narravit quemadmodum 14. Simeon hath declared how God at
primum Deus visitavit sumere ex the first did visit the Gentiles, to
gentibus populum nomini suo take out of them a people for his name.

15:15 et huic concordant verba 15. And to this agree the words of the
prophetarum sicut scriptum est prophets; as it is written,

15:16 post haec revertar et aedificabo 16. After this I will return, and will
tabernaculum David quod decidit et build again the tabernacle of David,
diruta eius reaedificabo et erigam illud which is fallen down; and I will build
again the ruins thereof, and I will set
                                             it up:

15:17 ut requirant ceteri hominum 17. That the residue of men might seek
Dominum et omnes gentes super quas after the Lord, and all the Gentiles,
invocatum est nomen meum dicit Dominus upon whom my name is called, saith the
faciens haec Lord, who doeth all these things.

15:18 notum a saeculo est Domino opus 18. Known unto God are all his works
suum from the beginning of the world.

15:19 propter quod ego iudico non 19. Wherefore my sentence is, that we
inquietari eos qui ex gentibus trouble not them, which from among the
convertuntur ad Deum Gentiles are turned to God:

15:20 sed scribere ad eos ut 20. But that we write unto them, that
abstineant se a contaminationibus they abstain from pollutions of idols,
simulacrorum et fornicatione et and from fornication, and from things
suffocatis et sanguine strangled, and from blood.

15:21 Moses enim a temporibus antiquis 21. For Moses of old time hath in
habet in singulis civitatibus qui eum every city them that preach him, being
praedicent in synagogis ubi per omne read in the synagogues every sabbath
sabbatum legitur day.

15:22 tunc placuit apostolis et 22. Then pleased it the apostles and
senioribus cum omni ecclesia eligere elders with the whole church, to send
viros ex eis et mittere Antiochiam cum chosen men of their own company to
Paulo et Barnaba Iudam qui cognominatur Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely,
Barsabban et Silam viros primos in Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas,
fratribus chief men among the brethren:

15:23 scribentes per manus eorum 23. And they wrote letters by them
apostoli et seniores fratres his qui after this manner; The apostles and
sunt Antiochiae et Syriae et Ciliciae elders and brethren send greeting unto
fratribus ex gentibus salutem the brethren which are of the Gentiles
in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia.

15:24 quoniam audivimus quia quidam ex 24. Forasmuch as we have heard, that
nobis exeuntes turbaverunt vos verbis certain which went out from us have
evertentes animas vestras quibus non troubled you with words, subverting
mandavimus your souls, saying, Ye must be
circumcised, and keep the law: to whom
                                             we gave no such commandment:

15:25 placuit nobis collectis in unum 25. It seemed good unto us, being
eligere viros et mittere ad vos cum assembled with one accord, to send
carissimis nostris Barnaba et Paulo chosen men unto you with our beloved
                                             Barnabas and Paul,

15:26 hominibus qui tradiderunt animas 26. Men that have hazarded their lives
suas pro nomine Domini nostri Iesu for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christi

15:27 misimus ergo Iudam et Silam qui 27. We have sent therefore Judas and
et ipsi vobis verbis referent eadem Silas, who shall also tell you the same
                                             things by mouth.

15:28 visum est enim Spiritui Sancto 28. For it seemed good to the Holy
et nobis nihil ultra inponere vobis Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no
oneris quam haec necessario greater burden than these necessary
                                             things;

15:29 ut abstineatis vos ab immolatis 29. That ye abstain from meats offered
simulacrorum et sanguine suffocato et to idols, and from blood, and from
fornicatione a quibus custodientes vos things strangled, and from fornication:
bene agetis valete from which if ye keep yourselves, ye
shall do well. Fare ye well.

15:30 illi igitur dimissi descenderunt 30. So when they were dismissed, they
Antiochiam et congregata multitudine came to Antioch: and when they had
tradiderunt Epistolam gathered the multitude together, they
                                             delivered the epistle:

15:31 quam cum legissent gavisi sunt 31. Which when they had read, they
super consolatione rejoiced for the consolation.

15:32 Iudas autem et Silas et ipsi cum 32. And Judas and Silas, being
essent prophetae verbo plurimo prophets also themselves, exhorted the
consolati sunt fratres et confirmaverunt brethren with many words, and confirmed
                                             them.

15:33 facto autem ibi tempore dimissi 33. And after they had tarried there a

15:34 [] 34. Notwithstanding it pleased Silas
                                             to abide there still.

15:35 Paulus autem et Barnabas 35. Paul also and Barnabas continued
demorabantur Antiochiae docentes et in Antioch, teaching and preaching the
evangelizantes cum aliis pluribus word of the Lord, with many others also.
verbum Domini

15:36 post aliquot autem dies dixit ad 36. And some days after Paul said unto
Barnaban Paulus revertentes visitemus Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our
fratres per universas civitates in brethren in every city where we have
quibus praedicavimus verbum Domini preached the word of the LORD, and see
quomodo se habeant how they do.

15:37 Barnabas autem volebat secum 37. And Barnabas determined to take
adsumere et Iohannem qui cognominatur with them John, whose surname was Mark.
Marcus

15:38 Paulus autem rogabat eum qui 38. But Paul thought not good to take
discessisset ab eis a Pamphilia et non him with them, who departed from them
isset cum eis in opus non debere recipi from Pamphylia, and went not with them
eum to the work.

15:39 facta est autem dissensio ita ut 39. And the contention was so sharp
discederent ab invicem et Barnabas between them, that they departed
adsumpto Marco navigaret Cyprum asunder one from the other: and so
Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto
                                             Cyprus;

15:40 Paulus vero electo Sila 40. And Paul chose Silas, and
profectus est traditus gratiae Domini a departed, being recommended by the
fratribus brethren unto the grace of God.

15:41 perambulabat autem Syriam et 41. And he went through Syria and
Ciliciam confirmans ecclesias Cilicia, confirming the churches.
